Recap of Companion’s Participation in Food Wine Design

Last week, Companion was proud to be the official bread sponsor for St. Louis Magazine’s Food Wine Design.  Food Wine Design is a weeklong dinner series that focuses on the city’s culinary and design talent while raising money for local charities, including Food Outreach.  Each night featured two of the city’s most celebrated chefs (including Patrick Connolly, Eric Kelly, Lou Rook III, Ben Poremba, Steve Komorek, and more!) collaborating on a delicious meal and Companion was able to pair our innovative bread creations to go with each one.  Check out what we whipped up!

Summer Specials at Companion

National Pretzel Day

Did you know today marks National Pretzel Day? Well, we did! We can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with our famous Bavarian Pretzels! These hand-made, mahogany colored sticks are the real deal – chewy, flavorful and the perfect addition to any meal. Want to give your pretzel an extra kick? We’ve got you covered. Use our delicious homemade Cheez Whiz recipe to whip up a dipping sauce that perfectly complements your pretzel. You can thank us later. Bavarian Pretzel “Cheez Whiz” ¼ cup Butter ¼ cup Flour 2 cups Whole Milk 2 cups Cheddar Cheese, shredded 2 tbl Smoked Tabasco ¼ tsp salt Melt butter in small saucepan over medium heat. Add flour and cook 2-4 minutes stirring constantly. Slowly add milk and continue stirring. When mixture just begins to boil and thicken, immediately remove from heat. Stir in shredded cheese, smoked Tabasco and salt. Check seasoning. Along mixture to cool. Aerate with mixer and serve with warm Companion Bavarian Pretzels.

Companion in St. Louis Magazine Cookbook

St. Louis Magazine is publishing its first ever cookbook, St. Louis Chefs’ Recipes. Edited by Christy Marshall and George Mahe, The 168-page book offers 173 exclusive recipes from 81 of the region’s most celebrated chefs. Companion’s own Jodi Allen contributed the recipe for Companion Beef Stew. “Nothing like this has been done recently,” says publisher Leslie Tunney. “This cookbook celebrates the fact that St. Louis’ culinary scene has exploded over the past decade. The book features a wide range of recipes from chefs at the city’s most respected restaurants and some that have been passed down through generations of their families. It’s something we know St. Louisans will treasure.” The book will be available for purchase starting September 26 with 10% of sales going directly to Operation Food Search, a local food bank seeking to tackle the growing problem of hunger. Craft Beer Festival

The Midwest has always been a beer capital as the home to mega-brewers, but the region has certainly experienced an explosion of smaller breweries as of late. While we may not be in the beer making business per se, our Bavarian Pretzel with its fresh, high quality ingredients and great taste has quickly become the popular accompaniment. Join Companion and a host of craft breweries on Saturday, September 22nd at The Family Arena’s first annual Craft Beer Festival. This one day only event will include beer from favorite breweries like Boulevard Brewing Co., O’Fallon Brewery, Shock Top Brewery, Goose Island Brewing and more.
